CBD vs. THC
Cannabis consumers have associated these two compounds together for years and understandably so. Years ago I too associated the two compounds together. CBD along with THC comes from the marijuana or hemp plant. Naturally, my mind would go to the negative connotations that weed had. Long haired lazy stoners that sit on there butt all day and smoke.
Well, as I began to learn more. I was wrong, very wrong. Yes, THC does give you a psychoactive effect and you will get high. However, it has tremendous health benefits that are helping millions of people.
- Low appetite
The big knock when it comes to THC is as we mentioned before it gets you high and it also federally ILLEGAL. I'm not here to knock THC because I do believe it has health benefits, but I also believe that CBD has a wider variety of benefits without making people feel high. It also happens to be federally LEGAL if it's under .3% THC and it's derived from hemp. Here are just some of the ailments CBD has been used to treat.
- Psychosis or mental disorders
- Inflammatory bowel disease
As the saying goes "Some people don't want to get high; they just want to get healthy". That's the biggest difference when it comes to CBD and THC. That and its legality. When I started learning more and more about these two compounds it had me really thinking. Every gas station or even liquor store I would walk into there was tobacco. If you've ever seen a pack of cigarettes or a tin of chewing tobacco you've seen what's on the packaging.
"WARNING THIS PRODUCT MAY CAUSE CANCER"
It made me realize how absurd and corrupt that you could essentially buy a pack of cancer anywhere. Four dollars for a pack of cancer and yet people buy it. Which is a story for another time, but the corruption of the legality of tobacco has become disturbing to me. Cigarette smoking causes 480,000 deaths a year in the United States alone. Imagine being the CEO of a big tobacco brand. Yes, you're making billions of dollars every year, but in turn, you're killing hundreds of thousands of people. There will always be corruption when money is involved, unfortunately. Let's not forget the role the United States had to play in this industry. Even after millions of lives have been lost it remains legal and will remain that way for years to come. You know why? Because there's money to be had.
CBD is legal (finally) and I do see in the foreseeable future THC becoming legal as well. There have been a whopping 0 deaths caused by the use of CBD. That's an industry that seems much more rewarding to be apart. Helping instead of hurting people. Next time you walk into a gas station think to yourself about that "Pack of Cancer" sitting on the shelf and how insane that really is. Buy it, it'll control your life, make you an addict, and ultimately kill you.
